1. n., Hawaiian pearl oyster (Pinctada radiata 🌐); in songs this is known as the iʻa hāmau leo o ʻEwa, ʻEwa's silent sea creature [it was believed that talking would cause a breeze to ripple the water and frighten the pipi].
