Rock, Kīlauea, Kauaʻi. Small island off Crater Hill that is part of the Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge and connected to the base of the sea cliffs by a sandbar, or tombolo. Two other tombolos are found on Kauaʻi: one at Poʻipū Beach Park that joins the beach to Nukumoi Point and one at Kīpū Kai that joins Kīpū Kai Beach to Mōlehu Point. Literally, squinting eyes (nearly closed).
