A sedge (Cyperus javanicus). (NEAL 86.) See Plants: Uses.

Sedge (Cyperus javanicus) found in or near marshes and taro patches. Its fiber, stripped from the stem, was used to strain ʻawa and make cordage. The leaves were fashioned into hats. (NEAL 86.)
