ʻaiea
All five species of the genus Nothocestrum are known in Hawaiʻi as ʻaiea. All are soft wooded. Slender stems are used for thatching, ʻaho, sticks, and firemaking in friction with a hard wood. The town of ʻAiea, Oʻahu, was named for these trees. (NEAL 738.)
